Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Spaghetti with Meat Sauce is an inexpensive meal to make, even a large portion can be cheap and it makes great leftovers!

INGREDIENTS:

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 pounds sweet or spicy Italian sausage, casings removed and crumbled
¼ cup diced white onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 (28 ounce) can tomato puree
¼ teaspoon to ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon dried basil
2 teaspoons kosher salt
Freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
1 pound of dried spaghetti, cooked according to package instructions.
Parmesan cheese, grated


DIRECTIONS:
  1. In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the oil and cook the sausage until beginning to brown, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the onion and garlic and cook 3 minutes more, until lightly browned.
  3.  Add the tomato puree, red pepper flakes, thyme, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  4. Let simmer for 10 minutes, covered. Taste and adjust seasonings. Can be stored in the refrigerator or 3 days or in the freezer for 1 month.
  5. Serve with cooked spaghetti and grated Parmesan cheese.
